As a teacher, I feel that this is a great book to help students realize the importance of friendship, dealing with life's ups and downs, and especially HOPE.
Star Mackie is navigating her way though a new school, a sister in trouble, and questions about who her father, all while trying to hang on to hope is in this achingly sweet story by Robin Herrera.
Kinda reminds me of Joe Meno's "Tender as Hellfire".
My daughter loves this author and she really enjoyed reading the book. She is 11 and loves to read.

I read this at the recommendation of my 10 year old grandson. He is a very good reader and loves books. I expected to read a somewhat trivial accounting of hope. I was pleasantly surprised to find a well written and interesting story....can't wait to discuss it with him!
I read this for a book club and, I have to admit, it's not the type of book I would typically choose. It didn't take long, though, for me to really get involved with the characters. All of the characters are endearing and fully realized. I wanted more of the story when it was over, but on the other hand, it was also basically perfect as is. There was a sense of closure to the story even though there were some questions that I thought would be answered that weren't. I highly recommend it, especially if you're looking for a quick read.
