I felt that this book was a cross between The Vampire Diaries and Twilight. The main character is nothing special, has no real redeeming qualities and all of the characters are very two dimensional. It takes a while for the book to get going.
I felt that the book read like a second draft and was poorly edited.

I just love this storyline and have read it a few times. It's just a wonder how a person can sit back and just be strong with themselves all the while being felt as if you are being pulled in many different directions at once. Poor Alice feeling something for two people and not knowing what to do. Wanting one that doesn't want you and then wanting one that does, but destiny tells you that you are meant for the one who doesn't want you and that your not allowed to be with the one you want what can a person do.
Until Next Time....Tabi
The one main issue that bugged me and I wonder if it happened because of the updates because on my nook I don't remember it being this way. I don't like that the text messages are not italics or bold so it was hard to tell what was speaking..text...or what not during phone conversations.
I am a fan of most vampire books - both young adult and adult versions - and very rarely find one that I cannot finish. Many vampire books have threads of similarities because they are all writing about the same subject - vampires, werewolves, etc. Yet, I was shocked at how blatantly this book copied Twilight. In the beginning scenes, the girl is walking down the city streets and is suddenly approached by four guys looking for trouble when the vampire's car skids into the road to save her (ummm, sound familiar?)... and then they physically describe him with his slight build and tousled hair (ummm, sound familiar again?)... and it keeps going from there. I even checked the date of publication thinking maybe this book was published first or around the time that Twilight first published (before it was well known). Nope, it was in 2010 (at least for the ebook version)? Why would you want to publish something that so obviously mirrors an over the top insanely popular series. As mentioned, I read tons of vampire series, and while they all have similarities that overlap, this is the first time I was distracted by the ridiculously similar and copy-cat story. I ordered the second book in the series at the same time as the first assuming I was going to love this one based on the reviews, but now I'm regretting that I did. Too bad. Save your money and check out a more original series.
Let me just start by saying I read many of the young adult book series! None of them will ever ever hold a candle to the Harry Potter series and none of them have come close to the books written by Richelle Mead, but they pass the time to keep me interested and I very much enjoy reading them as a way to relax. I also refuse to criticize the author's work as I am not an author or a literary aficionado. This book series I found very interesting. It is of course one of those love triangle plots, but hey, it keeps my attention! The reason I'm giving this book a one star review is because the author does not finish the series. She posted that she couldn't think of a good way to conclude the love triangle issue... and just gave up. When you read a book series all you really want to do is get to the end of the series, even if it includes 6, 14, or 157 books that the author has written in the series. I feel like I've wasted my time reading the series because I will never know the ending! I don't read books to use my imagination and figure out for myself what happens...I read books because I want to know what happens in the end. I am invested in the characters that I need to know what happens. The author has ruin that for me in the series and I'm very disappointed. However I will say I enjoyed reading the books and I'm glad I did but if anyone likes the book and do not start reading the series!!
I loved the story but the grammar, spelling and punctuation were horrific!!! Some sentences were so bad I wasn't even sure what was supposed to be conveyed. I don't understand how it could be so horrible. Any simple word processing program/software would have caught at least fifty percent of the errors. Peeves that drove me up a wall "where I'm at", "she's at", second graders know better grammar than this. You're telling me aged vampires don't? Alice can get away with it, being she's doing terrible in school. But I get the impression, this is the author's voice and bad grammar bleeding through into her writing. Another was "come with", "go with". What the heck? Finish the dang sentence! Would it kill the author to add one more word? Who speaks like that? Certainly not eighty and six hundred year old vampires.
Aside from the lack of editing, the storyline is great. The personalities of the characters comes through loud and clear. They all feel like real people you can relate to. I wanted to hang out with Jack. Shake Alice until her teeth rattled for the way she neglected her brother and school. And Jane, I would have left her behind in that parking lot.
The books in this series are good. The only...and biggest drawback is the lack of editing. If you don't mind wading through the mess, this series is a great read. I also don't understand why the last book, Wisdom, is not offered in english on .
