I normally love a good time travel romance, but the way this one was handled left me a little cold. The "how" of ability to time travel is glossed over and accepted by everyone as simply "magic." Okay, I guess I can deal with that. What really kept getting in the way of enjoying this story was the heroine, Emmy. She is supposed to be a 28 year old Johns Hopkins trained physician but in what I suppose was an effort to show the differences between Emmy's time (2010) and the Victorian Era (1895) she travels back to, the author has her speak like a very coarse, foul-mouthed, slang spewing teenager. Emmy continues doing this even after she accepts that she has indeed traveled to the Victorian Era where she knows she is viewed as vulgar and outlandish. For a reason I cannot ascertain, the author thought it wise to have this supposedly highly intelligent woman refuse to be polite to anyone except the servants. Heroine refuses to to behave civilly, use good manners, dress in anything that might conform to the era, and generally makes a real ass of herself. Hero falls for her at the sight of her tramp stamp, although he isn't fond of her belly ring. Everyone she tells believes her time-travel tale, and no one suggests that she is crazy -- they just go with it in a time when she probably would have been locked in the attics as a crazy relative and never mentioned again. Disappointed.

This book is so great that I had to read it in almost one sitting!! I was pleasantly surprised when I started the first page. I happen to be a descendant of the Clan MacLean of Duart. I enjoyed this story even more because of the familiar connection. This story is wonderfully written and the characters jump off the page and grab you and take you into the story. It feels so real and I would and will share this story and hopefully the next story with everyone and anyone I know. Angeline Fortin you are wonderful and I rate right up there with my favorite author Diana Gabaldon!!!
I love this Book, and it is my first purchase on . I have used free kindle before, but first time to actually buy a book, and I took advantage of the low cost Audible book. I was looking to find something to fill in the gap, after getting Addicted to the Starz- "Outlander Series". Was looking for anything that might be close to it. I chose this first book in This series driven by, the Scottish Laird and time travel theme that is familiar in "Outlander" as well as the price was right. I am not able to read for very long due to extensive Ey-Cataracts. I love this book, and it is filling the bill. Do I love it as much as "Outlander"...Well No, but It is still very good, and I will move on to the next book in the series when I am done with this one. My only, two complaints, about the Book writing is that it bugs me when sometimes a writer will use verbiage that is not used in the time period they are writing about. But, that is true with most writers. The only other complaint, would be about the Audible reading, and the lady reading it, when she tries to change her voice to the Laird's voice, it is not the best sounding. But, then It would be hard for a woman to change to a mans voice, and honestly This is my first audible, so I have nothing to really compare it to. All, in all she does a very nice job with the voices. Bottom line, I would recommend this to anyone who likes this kind of story, and you can not go wrong with the price on this, almost free.
This was a tedious read that dragged far too much. I really became bored with this read throughout most of the story. I don't' know, I just did not like the book too much until the end. What is the use of writing a book if you are going to make it 75 percent boring and only 25 percent ok. This author's pattern is the same in every book I have read from her, she makes the plot of the book interesting in the beginning, then the story drags on til about 75-80 percent of the book. The disappointment is that when the secret or reason for the reader to tolerate the boredom and tedium of the story , the reason does not have the
impact you you thought it would have. This book is just ok. I am not sure I would recommend it because I really hate books that drag on, I feel it is a waste of time!
A Laird for All Time by Angeline Fortin. I liked this story up to the end. I was with this story up until the end and then the author didn't seem to know where to go with it. Fortin never explained why Emmy, the heroine, looked so much like Dory. Also, Emmy's constant use of her iPhone didn't fit in. I could understand her finding it accidentally and then using it to bring Connor, the hero, up to speed but her early usage should have tripped her back to the future. I thought that since Emmy went back 100+ yrs, that maybe Connor's wife was Emmy's Grandmother but the story took a different twist. Here is what I really didn't like though.
When Emmy left Duart, she and Connor had not been married. She had not found her way back to Connor. In the epilogue, Emmy, meets her future grandson, who gives her very vague information about her future. It was just too large a leap from where the story ended to the grandson and she never saw Connor again. Also, there is so much sexual teasing that by time they do it, I lost interest. I loved the cover, the story kept my interest, even with numerous typos and grammatical errors, but the ending was a let down.
